Visiting Niagara Falls Canadian side with kids. I'm trying to save on tours, any advise on how I can visit the local attractionis, Maid of the Mist, Whirpool Jet boat, etc, without booking a tour? Any benefits of booking a tour? I'd rather do myself, however, I have no car at the hotel. Any advise and decent hotels and how to get around in the area?

  1. Most local atractions are walking distance from the center of the town, so many hotels will work well for you.

With regards of the tour, I think tour benefits are only the organization and bypassing some, at times long, lines.   Personally I am not a tour person and I have had a blast with my kids in Niagra falls that way, as we can stay longer in a place we enjoy, and then flee places that don't work well with the little ones!

Check the first link below for many activities to do and reviewsa.  You can buy a ticket on site there for most of them no problem, but I advise you start early in most activities, as the place can get very busy by mid-morning.  The second link has some discount packages if you want to buy tickets in advance.

In niagara, my list of must go places include:

    - Maid of the mist / Whirpool Jet (either one or both!)

    - Clifton Hill, it is the collection of little museums (Ripley's believe it or not, wax museum, minigolf, etc).  My kids absolutely loved the place and wanted to stop everywhere, we spend a haldf a day doing 3 blocks!

-Walk the boarwalk next to the falls (free, and you get the most fantastics views, although kids get bored after a while)

-Niagara on the lake (this is a nice little town some 20 minutes from the falls, restaurants, nice little stores including a Christmas one that my kids love, great for Ice cream with the kids and just relax in a park by the lake).

-We also like to visit some of the wineries in the region, but that is more of an adult thing.

There are some larger atraction nearby (zoo, circus, waterpark, etc) but I have never been to any of those, so can't comment on them.
