I'm a 15 year old who loves things from fashion, punk rock, japanese street fashion((goth, punk, visual-kei, decora)), shopping and funky knee socks and stockings. But I'm going with my grandmother and her two friends who are also old. I mean I don't want to tire or bore her too much if I just go shoping in punk areas, but I don't just want to go to places like The Eiffel Tower for two weeks. Are there any places where young trends, or fashion able yet not so expensive areas that a young Decora-chan and his grandma and her friends can BOTH have fun? Serious awnsers please.

  1. I think you'll all enjoy the Latin Quarter. It's an artsy, creative neighborhood that has some great energy going on! Lots of cafes, art galleries, and bookstores (sometimes even with a small English selection). But it's also kinda like the "oh la la" Paris you see in old movies, so your Grandma should get a kick out of it too.

For the same reasons, go see the Louvre and the metro station right under it (Metro Louvre Rivoli). Mind-blowing at any age!

As for the Eiffel Tower, do it last and don't devote much time to it. It's boring, but you won't quite feel like you've officially been in Paris until you've been photographed in front of it.

All of the answers to that question are valid except for Brian's, since his only experience of Paris was passing though a tourist trap on the way to Euro Disney.

Save your Japanese punk shopping for Tokyo or SF's Japantown. You're in Paris now. You want punk? Go to that cemetary where Jim Morrison is buried. Find the flat where Rimbaud lived (10 rue de Buci, in the Latin Quarter, near Metro Saint Michel). Those guys were punk before you were even born.

(P.S. "Metro -----" refers to a subway station. Paris has a gagillion of them. If you are travelling on your own, there is no cheaper nor faster way to get around town. Taxis are very expensive -- though if it was you, Grandma, and two friends, it might make economic sense)

  2. Be aware that if you are looking for the punk and goth places in Paris, they are in some pretty seedy areas and you can get your 15 year old self into more trouble in some of those areas than you care to think about.

Try enjoying Paris by looking more like a normal tourist than a vampire and you aren't as likely to become one of the thousands of 15 year olds who go missing in Paris every year.
