  1. The place we stayed was great. It was a little over 100 Euro a night. Excellent neighborhood too.

  2. I'm a bit confused since if you are "going to Paris soon" then you already know when you are going. Further, if you can afford a four star hotel then I'm not sure why you're asking for advice here.

However, for what its worth, I suggest the Ritz at 15 Place Vendome ( http://www.ritz.com/home_ritz/home.asp?s... ) A basic double room will cost you 730 € a night.

EDIT: I suspected that you might be unaware of what you were asking for.

So lets get back to reality in terms of price and talk about this a bit.

First, the star rating system in France is a poor guage of how pleasant a hotel will be. It is a mechanistic calculation of things like room size and whether or not there is an elevator. It omits a lot of things, like cleanliness, that I consider quite important. There are some truly awful 3 star hotels, and some very pleasant 1 star hotels. So don't be misled when you are checking internet sources.

Second, what do you really need in a hotel room when you're in Paris? Think about it. You're in perhaps the best city in the world and one that is open all night. If you have any sense at all you'll be in your hotel only to sleep a few hours, shower, change clothes and then head out again. All you need by way of amenities is a clean bed and decent bathroom facilities.

Third, location is crucial. You're going to the trouble and expense of traveling to the other side of the word. You don't want to waste time traveling from your hotel to the sights you want to see. Therefore you want to be in the center of Paris which is the area around Notre Dame.

Luckily there are a lot of nice hotels in this area and the only real question is price. Some I can reccomend are:

Hotel St. Andre des Arts. ( http://www.123france.co.uk/en/0/hotel-sa... ) This is my personal favorite and at 89 euros for a double with taxes and breakfast its very reasonably priced. Its a very simple place with no elevators, minibars, TV, or room service. Some of the furniture seems as old as the bulding itself (which is over three centuries old) But the staff are friendly, the guests convivial, and the location is perfect.

The Hotel de Nesle ( http://www.hoteldenesleparis.com/ )is another quirkly little hotel with a big base of repeat customers.

The Hotel Left Bank St. Germain ( http://www.paris-paris.com/hotel_left-ba... ) is quite a bit more expensive than the previous two suggestions but check the special offers section. its sometimes possible to get a double for as little as 110 euros (breakfast included). Its also a big step up in elegance for the other two and, right around the corner from the St. Andre, its also in a perfect location.
