  1. They do not have as many restaurant chains like in the U.S. Many places will be run by families, so it is much more difficult to gage nutritional choices.

Go with what you already know to be healthy. Lean meats/chicken/fish. There vegetables are always fresh, and thus healthier. A greta lunch is a bagette and a fresh apple.

Please indulge yourself though. Pain au chocolat was my personal weakness!

Also remember that you will likely be doing much more walking than normal. That will help you burn any extra calories you may fear putting on.

    Have a wonderful time.

  2. No, I'm not but will you adopt me so I can go too?

  3. when I was there, everyone was carrying around big sticks of bread.

    baguettes

  4. You're so lucky to be going to France. I'm going back in two months and I'm counting the days. Well, eating in France is like a religious experience.  The cool thing about Paris is that there are so many cafes, restaurants, bakeries, tea houses...each one will suit your need or your appetite. France is known for its fromage (cheeses) and if you like cheese you will be in heaven, although the cheeses are very different from US cheese selections. Some typical french dishes to try are bouillabaisse which is a mediterranean fish stew. It's delicious and very French. Cassoulet is a dish consisting of chicken, sausage, mutton and veggies. Raclette is a dish consisting of melted cheese with potatoes, pickles and ham.  Pot au Feu is a dish of boiled meat with vegetables in broth. Croque monsieurs are french sandwiches that can be ordered for lunch. Wine of course is abundant in France as are desserts such as chocolate, eclairs and pastries. Croissants and all sorts of breads (pains) can be ordered at "boulangeries." At any restaurant you can ask for the plat du jour which may consist of meat and veggies or something else that your waiter may explain. It's impossible to say what is healthy and unhealthy, as the French have a much more healthy attitude about food than we in the United States. They savor their food, enjoy it and tend not to be overweight. Vive le France!  A good resource is the site www.patriciawells.com -
