Going to Paris tomorrow for a weekend?

Does anyone go there in January or am I the only one? I got a cheap deal (£100 train + hotel). I suppose it will be very cold there but hey I don't mind!

My question really is, I'm staying near Dupleix metro (the 7th district), is it easy to walk to the centre of town?

  1. Take the Metro... it's too far to walk, but the Metro is cheap and runs until about 11pm every night.  Buy a book of 10 tickets at the first ticket booth... that should do you for a week end.

  2. Its a fairly lengthy walk to the centre (which is defined as in front of Notre Dame on the Ile de la cite). A distance of about 5 km (3 miles) as the crow flies.

Its about a ten minute ride on the Metro.

I know that travel writer and TV personality Rick Steves recommends staying in the 7th arr. which only proves what an idiot he is. Someone ought to gather up all his travel books and burn them.

  3. It's close to the Eiffel Tower but far from anything else, and certainly a pretty long walk to the center (about 45 minutes walking fast), as Rillifane said.

But if instead of Dupleix you walk to nearby Métro stop La Motte Picquet Grenelle on line 10 (toward Gare d'Austerlitz), you are only a short & direct ride to St-Germain-des-Prés, Odéon & Cluny-Sorbonne in the Latin Quarter, which is pretty central. Have a nice weekend in Paris!

Edit: the métro works until approx. 2:00 am on weekends (1:00 am on weekdays), and not 11pm as said below.

  4. People go to Paris year-round.  Trust me, you won't be the only person there.  I can't answer your second question though, because I've never been.  Have fun.

  5. I think January is a time alot of Parisians head to Vietnam for their beach vacations.  To me, ANYTIME is a great time to go!!!  And, they just banned all smoking in all the cafes so you can have smoke free paninis, hot chocolate, drinks, etc.!!

check out this map of Paris Arrondissements to see city and where you are staying to where everything is:

and the Metro/RER train maps:  http://www.pariswelcome.net/metro/metro-...

Just got back and green with envy!! Have a great time!

  6. Paris is a walking city and you will be near all the main attractions..and the metro is great...get a good map and enjoy your trip..it's beautiful all year rounds.
