  1. If your a guy look out for the hookers, if your a chick, dont get rapped.

  2. don't drink the water ?

  3. If you rent a car, and park it on the street overnight, parallel park it between two other cars. NEVER park your car at the end of the line. EVER. Our rental car got stolen that way (just towed away) the night before we left.

Make an extra trip to the Bioluminescent Bay. My brother was there recently, and absolutely loved it.

The touristy areas are very beautiful, but be warned that you might be surprised by what you see outside the touristy areas. There is a lot of poverty in Puerto Rico.

The drivers in Puerto Rico are worse than New Jersey drivers. (I don't mean to generalize. I'm sure there are also very good drivers, but this is just a warning).

Take a good spanish-english dictionary. We thought since Puerto Rico was a part of the US, everyone would speak English, but that's not the case. Embrace their culture and if someone doesn't speak English, try some Spanish. We encountered this problem while at McDonald's, of all places.

Lastly, enjoy yourself. I'm an avid traveler, but I'd say my trip to Puerto Rico was one of the best. Even the Taj Mahal can't top the bathwater-warm oceans of San Juan.

  4. I've never been there but I have been to the Dominican Republic. If it's an all-inclusive (drinks & food included) resort, you'll want to take a water bottle or travel coffee mug for the bar. They will fill it up with juices, alcohol or water.. This is good because their glasses are usually just "rinsed" and can hold bacteria from both the water and from not being washed off properly. Also bring small bills in whatever currency they use (American?) to tip the maids and other workers. You'll notice a difference in the way they treat you. :)

  5. Go and have fun!

Don't be scared and shy away from doing things because you hear things are dangerous.

If your in a location and feel unsafe.. then leave. but as someone who's been there twice. I have never felt that.

--Old San Juan is beautiful with wonderful little shops and enough people who speak English.

--   El Morro (Castillo de San Felipe del Morro) in San Juan- dramatic fortress, beautiful

-- Phosphorescent Bay (Bahia Fosforescente)- best place at night-glowing tiny animals that react to the slightest disturbance in the water: a fish, boat or hand can light them up like millions of tiny underwater light bulbs.

this place also has great little market.. Never settle for initial price!

El Museo Castillo Serralles, which is in ponce

    - huge mansion of the serralles family which are the owners or the Don Q liquor

I'm adding a website for the nightlife which is unbelievable.

It's a great place. and wish i could go back today.

also.. be careful with the driving. these are thee craziest drivers ive seen. Nothing to be really scared of.

      enjoy

  6. You should know Spanish, if that seriously hasn't come across your mind yet.

  7. DONT GET RAPED OR MUGGED...very high risk there!

  8. the counrty is pretty...keep ur bags close to u in the streets..they drive SLOW too
