  1. I lived in Italy for 4 years!  Pompey is right outside of Rome!  Taxi's and Rail service are very affordable.  Same with buses.  You can also rent Vespas!  Mostly you will walk alot so bring good shoes!  You will LOVE Italy!  Ciao!

  2. Rail travel is not too expensive and there are a lot of tariffs available. You pay more for the faster trains, such as Eurostar which connect the main cities (so you could take this from Rome to Napoli) or you can get the Inter City trains which are cheaper, however a little slower. Then there are other slower and cheaper options.

Pompeii is not so far and as the others have said take the train to Napoli and then get the smaller local train to Pompeii. I would stay somewhere in the area and not do it as a day trip  as there is a lot to see there. However if you want to do it in one day you can do a guided bus trip which leaves from Rome early, and then brings you back to Rome in the evening (guide and entrance tickets normally included)

  3. ...yes,you can go to Naples (it's about 2 hours far) and then to Pompei (by train or by bus...)...

  4. OK if you  want to go to Pompeii you have to go to Naples first...its about 2 hours by train (to Naples) then you go by car from Naples...its not far away

  5. check this out

  6. You can get to Pompeii by rail from Naples and the station is about 200 yards form the entrance. It takes less than an hour and costs a few Euros. The railways are v cheap and efficient in Italy.
