I'm going to South Africa in the end of July. I am only wondering how the plane ride is. If anyones been there: how is it? How long? How's the service? And finally, how's the airport? I'm landing in Johannesburg.

  1. A friend of mine that lives near there tells me airline service is fantastic and great and they treat you like a Queen/King. Not sure if that's true, but I guess mise well go with it... ;)

  2. im from egypt and i went to SA for my honeymoon 1 year ago. i went despite all the discourgement and i really dont regret it at all. just be cautious and do what you have to do to be safe, dont trust and dont be afraid. it took me 10 hours from cairo to JHB directly. the air port  was awsome but there was a part of it under renewal. the service!! that really depends on the airline you are taking, for me the egyptian airline was perfect while going. in between cities i took the british and it was awfull.

really enjoy the country no matter what cause it really deserves the go. p.s hartbeespoort near JHB is an awsome, safe city and very good for shopping and site seeing. if you need more help, dont hesitate hebaemam@hotmail.com

    take care

  3. It's a flight. Not a ride. I'm from South Africa and you need to be extremely cautious when visting the continent of Africa. Recently, there have been a spate of robberies and assualts on tourists just outside JHB airport by the indigenous Blacks. Exercise EXTREME caution, or don't go at all. I left SA a number of years ago and do not intend returning to stay.

  4. I am going back in Dec for Christmas :)

Last time I went from the UK it is anything between 10 and 14 hours. It depends on weather and other conditions. Normally when I fly it takes 12 hours. Jozy airport is okay, but you need to make sure you get your luggage as soon as you get off the plane and be very wary. If you have money on you don't flash it around keep it hidden! Same with expense jewelry.

Enjoy your stay and come back and tell us how it was hey!

  5. I have just left South Africa, my home country because I couldnt handle the crime. It is BAD. You cant even trust the police, because half the time the cops are the bad guys. Dont trust any one and dont let your eyes off your belongings. You might be lucky if you get your luggage out of the airport undamaged. They staff tend to 'help themselves' to your belongings.

Most South Africans are friendly and helpful and will do anything they can to make you happy, but keep them at an arms length, and dont trust them as far as you can throw them.

South Africa is very poor and has really rich areas, some nicer than USA even with up to date technology and malls and restaurants. And its in these ares you will see a lot of whites. Give them respect because it is so hard for white South Africans because the governement is doing everything in their power to get us out. And it is thanks to us that Africa has any development at all.

  6. Where are you coming from.

US to SA is about 24 hours if you stop over in UK

UK to SA is about 8 hours

  7. I flew to SA 2 years ago now from London. The flight to Johannesburg was about 11 hours. I flew South African Airways and thought the service was brilliant. The airport is fine and staff are friendly!

  8. Hey, we're going in February!

We're flying from Atlanta to Johannesburg with a stopover in Senegal.  It's about 17 hrs, according to the airline.

We will be going to Kruger park.

  9. i live in South Africa x]

    go to Cape Town tho

    it's wayy better than Johannesburg
