I am going to Ulm in two months alone. I have been to Munich and surrounding towns/cities, but never Ulm. To top it off I am going alone. Just wondering if anyone has any tips. I am going to study and I need to find my own way from either the Stuttgart, Munich, or Frankfurt airport to the Ulm station. I do have a good background in the language (I am a German major). Any tips would be greatly appericated!

  1. As far as I know the main train line from Munich to Stuttgart passes through Ulm, so there shouldn't be a problem to get there. The bigger problem is to get from Munich airport to Munich main station; from Stuttgart Airport to Stuttgart main station should be easier, but I'm not sure. Frankfurt airport has its own big train station, but Frankfurt is the futher away from Ulm.

You probably know that IC trains are the cheaper (but slower) option as compared to ICE trains?

Don't know Ulm myself; I know it's right on the state border, so if you want to go shopping, make sure to know which state has what public holidays; and thanks to recent legal nonsense, you might find different laws concerning smoking in restaurants and bars in Bavaria and Württemberg; as well as differing opening hours of shops.

  2. Hey, I'm studying in Passau, it's in Bavaria on the border with Austria, I know a guy who's studying medicine in Ulm but we're not that close.

I think but I still have to check that you can use the 'Bayern Ticket'. That is you land in Munich and buy this ticket at the airport it's good for all forms of public transit in Bavaria for a day, if I can take that ticket to go to Salzburg then I'm sure you can take it to go to Ulm.

Or else, fly to Stuttgart and buy a Baden-Wuttemberg Ticket but it's more expensive to land in Stuttgart then in Munich I think.

Ther German transport system is excellent, really you shouldn't have any problems especially since du kannst Deutsch schon.

    Viel Spass in Deutschland!

PS: If you land in Munich and need help getting around, I know the surroundings so if you need more help just email me!
