Question:

Going to a University in Australia from the United States?

I've been interested in taking my undergraduate studies to Australia, and I was wondering how that process would go? I'd really like to get to a somewhat decent univesity in Australia, an I was wondering how hard it is to get into one? I was hoping to leave for Australia straight after highschool, without transfering from an American college or going from a foreign exchange program. What are the requirements? I'm a Sophomore now by the way.

  1. Hey

Well, I am from Victoria, and I would say that the best Uni's here are Melbourne, Monash, Deakin and RMIT. But it depends what you want to do.

I am not sure about the other states....

I am in year 12 now and I know that I apply using my ENTER score, but as you don't have one you should go to the various uni websites and they have all the details for foreign application.

You should decide by about October or September..I think. That is when we put in our preliminary submissions for courses.

  2. Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane universities are all excellent, and provided you have good grades and have met their course prerequisites, the fact that you attended a public school will be of no consequence - around 50% of Australian students who go to university are from public schools.

Each university website has information regarding entry requirements for international students:

    http://www.uq.edu.au/international/index...

    http://www.usyd.edu.au/fstudent/internat...

    http://www.futurestudents.unimelb.edu.au...

In order to study in Australia, you must be accepted at the educational institution of your choice before applying for a student visa. You must pay your tuition fees before entering the country.

    For all information, see:

    EDIT:

I've just read the incredible statements of Ms. Vindictive. Vindictive is the right name for her! Every word she wrote is untrue. Australians do NOT hate Americans. There have not been any hate crimes against Americans. No group of American students were murdered at a Melbourne university, not ever! Some Australians disagree with some American policies, but they don't hold them against individual Americans. You will be welcome in Australia and you'll be safe here.

  3. There's been a lot of anti Americanism in Australia recently. A group of American students were murdered at a university in Melbourne several weeks ago. Most Australians hate Americans and there is a lot of hate crimes against Americans in Australia. The American media has yet to pick up on this.

I would advise you to avoid going to university in Australia. I suppose you could just say you're a Canadian, but it's very dangerous for an American in Australia at the moment as anti Americanism is rampant in Australia.
