  1. The only track I've been too other than Belmont (where I was a hotwalker in high school) is Saratoga.  I had an incredible experience there last year and plan to go back twice this year (opening week and on Travers Day (also called the mid-summer derby).  The cool thing about Saratoga is that you can actually go stand in front of the jockey's room and talk to your favorite jockeys (most were very nice), get close enough to see the horses being saddled in the paddock even without binoculars, go right up to the track and watch (you do need binoculars but you can rent them) and everyone I met there was incredibly friendly.  Saratoga's meet is only a few weeks in the summer.  But, if you should get the chance to go, do it.  It's near Albany.  I went alone last year.  And, I guess there were some drunks but it was mostly families and couples who just wanted to spend a nice day in the country with some beautiful horses (I got to see Street Sense, Hard Spun, Tueflesberg, Sightseeing (my favorite) and meet Calvin Borel, Mark Guidry, Rafael Bejarano and Edgar Prado.  But, Arizona should be fine.  Have a great time.

  2. Pay the extra money and go to the turf club Not the ones for owners and trainer s only

But you dont have to be down below

Get a better seat and no it's not as bad as you think

you do have choices ,, and if they where homeless they had to pay to get in?

So do not believe everything you hear ,, have fun

Arizona is not like SANTA ANITA But still there are allot of weird people hanging around m Not everyone drunk

    Have fun ok

ps if you intend on on going to the turf club or what ever they call it dress nice and make sure your friend wears a tie ..

  3. knock off the b/s......the club-house will separate you from

the winos........e-mail me back at bwj1963@yahoo.com

and i will send you my picks.....let me know what track....

  4. When I've been to the track there's been a lot of families there actually.  I'm sure there's the ordinary crowd of handicappers hanging round too, but I've never seen a group of crazy drunk old dirty men.  I was never scared at the track.  I think you'll be fine... just stick with your group and you'll have so much fun that you won't notice who is around you.

  5. Well, I hope that at 13, you are not going alone. .

Tracks can be fun.  Lone Star Park in Texas has lots of families that go. You will not be allowed at the parimutual windows, so you should not be around the "drunks"
