Going to be talking to Air Force recruiter soon.

I'm going to be talking to a Air Force recruiter tomorrow. How do you choose the job you want? Is it decided before you sign up? Or do they choose it for you. I'm a High School Graduate and i haven't taken the ASVAB yet. Also should I take the ASVAB before talking about jobs with them?

  1. They may offer you a guaratee job or placement

but when  I was in they offered me five different jobs and I got what I

    wanted ..Inventory Management Specialist..64500

ask the recruiter if you can get it in writing that you will get the career choice you want.  Good Luck.. Recruiters are very tricky..sometimes

  2. hey so i know what you mean with having all these questions.  I just went through it all myself.  I leave October 7th for basic.  But anyway your recruiter will be able to answer all these questions, dont be afraid to ask him.  Its his job and he gets these sort of questions on a daily basis.

As for the ASVAB you will be taking this before choosing jobs, because the jobs you qualify for are based on this test.  You will go to MEPS where you take your physical (and it is a full body physical, trust me) and this is also where you take your ASVAB and then meet with a job counceler.  Piece of advice, do NOT let them convince you to go in with a guaranteed General.  You will get stuck with whatever the air force needs, like cleaning toilets or something.  Just do the best on your ASVAb as you can, i would recomment checking out the ASVAB For Dummies book from the library and going through.  It helped me out a lot and i got a 93 using it.  When i got to job counceling i qualified for everything.

So ask questions and go from there, good luck!

  3. Here's some things to read first.

You take the ASVAB first to see which jobs you qualify for. The recruiter may give you a mini one in his office to see how you do. It's supposed to give him some idea of how you'll do on the one at MEPS. Look at the recruiter as a salesman. When they go to school to learn recruiting they learn sales techniques. They're selling the Air Force.

Here's an explanation of the ASVAB and some free practice tests. You can also go to the library and check out some study guides they have or buy one at a bookstore if you feel you need it. You can take the ASVAB when you feel ready. Don't let the recruiter push you. Remember this is going to determine which jobs you are eligible for.

Here's a list of jobs and the qualifications for them including the apptitude score.

  4. They can't offer you anything until you pass the asvab.  The asvab dictates what you qulaify for.  Then, and only then can they talk jobs.

...and even then they can't finalize anything.  The career counselors at MEPS actually do the job placements and you may find a particular field is overstrength, in which case, you may not get a job your highly qualified for.

    Good Luck though

edit 1:  that pretest only gives an idea as to overall score.  Not for jobs.
