  1. You might rub your nipples with a wash cloth to "toughen" them, but you don't really need to.  After the baby you can use Lansinoh.  Good luck with the baby.  Good for you for breast feeding.

  2. I don't think you need to anything now.  Later, if they start to hurt, use some of the breast milk and rub it on and let them air dry

  3. Nope. I am still breastfeeding my daughter, she is 8 months. When I started I didn't use anything. Your nipples will toughen by themselves without anything added. Just know that it does hurt, but your pain won't last that long. My pain peaked at about 2 weeks, and was fully gone by 6 wks, but I wouldn't change it for anything! It is just so much easier, especially in the middle of the night when you can just lay your baby right beside you to feed, and you can both rest. Congratulations!

  4. Lanolin, use that or any nipple ointment to prepare your skin before hand.

If your skin is well hydrated than the chances of cracking/bleeding once breastfeeding starts is lower.

I did nothing with my first pregnancy and suffered horribly with the cracking.  I used the ointment the last few weeks (once a day) of my second pregnancy and had no problem with cracking.

    Your choice and congratulations!

  5. Nothing for right now, but you may want to get some Lanolin for when you are breastfeeding.  It helps to keep the nipples from cracking and possibly bleeding and is safe for the baby.  You will want to be as comfortable as possible.  The first few weeks of breastfeeding are pretty hard until you both get used to the process, but it is definitely worth it!  Good luck and congratulations!

  6. I read on 'The womanly art of breastfeeding' that you should pull on your nipples regularly to prepare them, i did every night before bed, only for a couple of times because they were so sensitive already. I started when i was around 37wks.

When my son was born i used Lansinoh lanolin after each feeding for a wk, then switched to express a bit of milk & let it to air dry after each feeding for another wk & that was it, i never experienced cracked or sore nipples so i know i did something right.

    Good Luck, God Bless

    Congrats on the baby!

    Congrats on choosing to breastfeed.

  7. No, you don't need to put anything on them.

If they do get slightly irritated once you do start nursing, put some breastmilk on them and let them air dry.
