  1. Shorts and a t shirt basicallly. Yeah it's hard to comprehend until you experience the heat first hand, especially this time of year. When you get there, you will understand why.

I guess the reason you are going in July is because the airfare and hotels are cheaper, but I went in May and and I don't think I ever want to go there outside of the months of November-April if I return.

PS..don't listen to the girl above. I stayed in Downtown Cancun and took the bus to the strip every day. Downtown sucks *** (unless you are trying to buy drugs), but it is dirt cheap, and no the music isn't better. The people that are there all have to get up for work the next day because most of them live in town, so most of the bars and clubs are dead during the week. Everything is in spanish.

Isla mujeres was pretty boaring. For some reason, idiot backpackers like to go there because it isn't "touristy". Well, it isn't touristy for a reason, morons. It's dead and quiet. Might as well just go to a quiet beach in the states. You came there to have fun right?

  2. Anything you want.  :)

I've been there twice - if you're talking "night-club" type places like Senor Frog's or the resort shopping/restaurant district, the dress code is generally more relaxed than in most major US cities.  It gets really hot and sticky down there, so most people dress for comfort.  I saw a lot of girls in fancy bikini-type tops and minskirts or hot pants, or short sundresses.  The most formal I ever saw on guys was a polo shirt with nice pants - there were a lot of Hawaiian shirts and surfer-style shorts around.  The most dressed-up I ever got was a sundress and pumps, and I was totally overdressed!

Of course, if you mean the real Cancun (as in, where the locals actually live and eat), the attire can be even less pretentious.  The food and music downtown is better and cheaper, too.

    Hope this helps,

    Lilith Madleh

PS: If you haven't on a previous trip, you MUST take the ferry over to Isla Murjes.  It is "La Ilsa Bonita" of the Madonna song and is just a wonderful place!  And make sure you go snorkeling!

  3. Regular clothes, or jeans with a nice button up. Make sure everything you wear is light! It gets very hot everywhere, regardless of rain.
