Going to college for accounting?

I've been looking into colleges and stuff like that lately. If I wanted to be an accountant, would I have to find a school with Accounting as a major, or could I major in something else and still be one? Like, this school:

doesn't offer an accounting major, so I wouldn't be able to go there?

  1. No, to be an accountant you'd actually have to be an 4 or 5 year accounting major, get a degree and then sit in for your licensing.

  2. No, it wouldn't be acceptable.  When you find a job in accounting they are concerned with how many upper division courses in accounting you've taken.  If the school doesn't offer the major they wont have the upper division accounting courses (only basic intro ones which are not enough to get a job in the field).  You need to find a program that has an accounting major and this can be an accounting emphasis that's part of a BBA program.
