Question:

Going to college.............

I always see commercials about going to college, they say no matter how much you work, you can always find time to go to college. I work 15 hours/day, seven days a week, I don't think I have the time to go to college. How much time do you have to set out in a day to take online courses, is there a set time or do you make your own hours, do you think I have the time to do those.

  1. "...they say no matter how much you work, you can always find time to go to college."

I think what they mean by that is if you really wish to go to college in your heart, you will find time to do so - not that there is always time to go to college, but only if you commit yourself to that goal you will find time to do so.

The 1st person is right about the fact that you will make double in 4yrs of college than you do at your current job.  But I disagree on the part that you can take 1 class.  The remaining 9 hrs you have on your day should be spent on sleep.  There's no way you can manage to fit in sleep and meaningful study during that time.  Even if you do, overtime it would make you tired from work and lack of sleep - the result being inability to retain what you have learned the previous night.  Your memory crashes when you hit that stage (which will come in 2 weeks if you do take 1 course with your current schedule).

I think you should take time off work, or cut down on hours.  Most colleges don't make you pay interest until after 6 months of idleness.  If you find a different job and work part time, you will be able to complete college and live on your own.  You can pay loans after you get a real job.  Trust me, the rest of your life would be so much relaxing (and fewer hours of work) if you went to college.

Oh, to tell you the truth about online colleges - hiring managers look down upon it (imagine if a person with a real college degree is applying for the same position you are).  There's no point in going to online college if you don't get the respect for the time you spent there.  My advise is to find a part-time job and go to a 4-year college.  Most 4-year colleges offer the FAFSA loan, inquire them about that.

There's nothing better than real college, where you'll have help from real people and study with real people.

  2. Honey,

I am in the same boat. I have a full time job that pays, and i have another full time job that does not pay.

But i can tell you this.  If you truly want to go to college you will find the time to go. Whether its online or on the weekend. whichever.  Seems like online will be the best bet for you.  you can start with one class, granted you understand you will be attending a lot longer than if you went full time.  Some colleges do thier classes like an independent study(at your own pace). Other colleges online, you have a set time to get on the computer while the class is in session.  So you may have to look around to see what fits your needs.

    Good luck

  3. Nope

  4. you can at least fit in 1 class, but you got to cut down on the hours at work and make room for your studies. you'll be making the better choice and in 4 years be making double what you make there at your job
