Question:

Going to dentist couple days after getting tattooed?

Ok, I am going to get a tattoo this Saturday on my calf. I'm not worried about the pain. What I am worried about is that I am going to the dentist on Monday, 2 days after getting the tattoo. I will be given an IV and afterwards, I will probably be put on some antibiotics. I am wondering how this will interfere with my tattoo? I have read that some medicines will thin the blood, and this can slow down the tattoo's healing process. I dont think it will interfere with my tattoo too much, but I am still not sure. Please help!

  1. I don't think it would be affected that much. Obviously it depends on the way the specific antibiotics affect your body.

I'd call up my dentist, explain to them about the tattoo, ask what medications you'll be put on and if they know of any ramifications.

Then discuss it again with your tattoo artist including the information you got from your dentist.

  2. It won't be a problem.  By day 2 the tattoo will be well on it's way healing and nothing to be concerned about.  The medicines that thin the blood are in the same class as aspirin.  If your dentist is recommending these for any after-session pain management, then it would matter but only if you were going in for more tattoo work.  It's during the tattooing session that you worry about thinned blood and how that affects bleeding.
