  1. Well, it depends on what day you are looking at. Like if you were leaving today there is actually a train which would get you there on time.

The underground between St Pancras and Liverpool Street will take about 15 minutes. But count in walking between the station and the underground plus perhaps waiting for the next tube to come along - 30 minutes maybe?

  2. St Pancras where you get the Eurostar is right next to Kings Cross St Pancras underground station ... from Liverpool Street underground station you would take one of the three underground lines - Central, Hammersmith & City or Metropolitan - that run between the two stations, it's a short journey ... look at the tube map

    http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/s...

when you come out of the underground station at Kings Cross St Pancras just follow the signs for the Eurostar

Kings Cross St Pancras is a very busy place, there's the underground stations, Kings Cross mainline station, St Pancras mainline station, and the St Pancras international station ... it's the international station for the Eurostar that you need ... don't worry, it's all very well signposted

yes, you could get an Oyster card but if this is the only journey you would be doing by underground I would say you would be quicker just getting a single ticket from the machine rather than messing around buying an Oyster card

  3. Don't forget that to travel on the Eurostar you must check-in not less than 30 minutes before it's due to leave (apart from having to get through security, you have to find your right carriage and seat, and a Eurostar train is a quarter-mile long), which means you have to put your Eurostar ticket through the ticket barrier at St Pancras not later than 0822.

For a weekday, www.transportdirect.info suggest the latest train you can take is the 0623 from Ipswich, arriving at Liverpool Street at 0737, then it's an 8 minute ride on the Circle Line to Kings' Cross St Pancras. There are also trains from Ipswich at 0523 and 0553.

If the earliest train is 0742, arriving Kings' Cross 0920, that means you're travelling on Sunday. To catch your train you're going to have to go by coach - the 0430 Excel Coaches X5 service from stand G at the Old Cattle Market in Ipswich, which arrives at Stansted Airport coach station at 0547, then take the National Express Airport A6 service towards London Victoria coach station, which leaves at 0620; get off the coach at Baker Street at 0743, and take the Hammersmith & City Underground line from Baker Street to Kings Cross St Pancras. You have to book the coach tickets in advance, so I suggest you have a word with a travel agent.

Note that if you already have your Eurostar tickets, ask at the Ipswich station travel centre about tickets to "London International", not to Liverpool Street - you can only buy these tickets if you're buying Eurostar tickets or show the connecting Eurostar tickets at the same time; they give you extra rights if you miss your Eurostar connection through the train from Ipswich being late - basically Eurostar have to rebook you on the next available train, whereas normally if you miss the train you have a reservation for, you're stuffed. It should also include the Underground fare to Kings Cross St Pancras (check with the issuing ticket office) which saves having to mess with Oyster cards or £4 cash at Liverpool Street. It's a good idea to sort this out a few days in advance, so you're not asking for an unusual ticket at the ticket office in the morning rush-hour!

  4. I'm not sure where you're looking but the National Rail website journey planner has trains departing from Ipswich towards Liverpool Street station from as early as 05:23 today and 05:42 Saturday.

If you catch the train from Ipswich at around 06:45, you'll have plenty of time get to St Pancras station in time for your 08:52 Eurostar train from St Pancras International - Paris. You can make it from the platform you step on upon arriving at Liverpool Street station to the St Pancras International terminal in 30 minutes quite comfortably.

I'd advise you to get an Oyster card at Liverpool Street station and ask for the Oyster card to be topped up with £3 (£1.50 Liverpool St - King's Cross + another £1.50 for the return journey). The cash single fare that you have to pay if you don't use Oyster is a royal rip-off (£4 for each journey!). Then take a westbound Metropolitan/Circle/Hammersmith & City Line train from Liverpool Street to King's Cross. Walk to St Pancras International.

You'll have to pay a £3 deposit for the Oyster card and you can choose to either keep it for your next trip to London or return the card to get your £3 deposit back (you'll need to show the receipt you were given when you got the Oyster card, so keep it safe!).
