  1. A couple of pairs of good jeans ,a couple of skirts and a mix of tee-shirts and a pretty blouse or two. One warm pullover and a jacket, a pair of socks and walking shoes in case the weather is cold and at least one easily laundered dress that you can wear day-time or evening..something plain that you can dres up with a scarf or shawl or some beads.Plenty of underwear, three night shirts or whatever you wear in bed and a robe and slippers. make sure that you have a supply of your favourite toiletries and some band-aids and antiseptic cream just in case. Anything more is purely voluntary in my opinion. When my mother travels she requires a full set of luggage for anything longer than a week or two suitcases for anything less..but I can manage a fortnight with nothing more than cabin luggage..i.e. one carry on case..and wearing the heaviest item in  my wardrobe for the flight.

  2. when you go to england just dress like a street prostitiute, you should fit in well!

  3. light clothing and heavy clothing, never before will you experience such different weather patterns

  4. I wouldn't worry about how you look, it really doesn't matter. I'm just returned from Italy, and if there's one nationality that stands out from all the rest in Europe, it's Americans - not because of what they wear, but because how loudly they complain about the price of things.

    A few points, people:

    1) You think it's bad for you visiting Europe? Try living in some of the more expensive countries. Like Ireland.

    2) If you did a bit more research, you'd know there are always cheaper options if you're prepared to go off the beaten track.

    3) It's not that the Euro is too expensive, it's because the dollar is weak. You are not used to this - and the shoe is tight on the other foot, isn't it? Why is the dollar weak? George W and his illegal war in Iraq. War is expensive. And an incompetent as a president even more so. But thankfully a change is due to come ....

  5. Well, you will look as a tourist and there's nothing bad about it. Just wear whatever feels comfortable to travel in.

Trying to blend in in all those countries is close to impossible, because people in these various European countries dress differently. In England for instance they dress more casually, while in Spain and Italy they are more imaginative (colours, high heels, etc).

It also matters where you go - walking around the city, museums, cafes, beach, night clubs, opera, hiking, pizza places, gourmet restaurants, etc.; and where you stay - hostels or 4-star hotels. Last but not least - what is your preferred style?

Having said this, I suggest you take jeans, shorts, a pair of comfortable walking shoes and a pair of comfortable sandals to go with them, plus a number of nice T-shirts and tops. A pair of elegant shoes and a simple black or black-and-white dress, plus some fancy (but inexpensive) jewellery - just in case. Naturally, a light jacket to shield you from the wind and a pullover - for colder weather. A hat or cap might be very useful, as it can get really warm in these countries! White cotton tops and dresses are also very good in the heat. A neutral short skirt and one or two matching nice tops can be just what you need for night clubs.

But first of all - bring over your good mood with you:)
