  1. if you were authorized to ship a POV when you PCSd to Germany they will ship one back when you leave.

  2. Check your orders, that is the first thing you need to do when you have them.  On your orders it will state whether or not you are authorized shipment of a POV @ gov't expense.  If you were originally authorized shipment of a POV, when PCSing to Germany, you should be authorized shipment of a POV back to CONUS.  However, the POV will have to be US Specs for entry into the US.  If it is not US specs then you will have to pay for a costly conversion, and it will not be allowed to be driven on US roads until complete.

Car insurance is NOT that bad in Germany.  Check out the local companies (I had Agrippina) and also USAA.  USAA does offer POV insurance in Germany (I had them there later), and the rates are pretty good - better than when I was in DC.

  3. probably not

  4. If you have POV shipment on your return orders, you can ship it back to the States when you leave - IF that car has US specs.

Check with Transportation.  You will probably have a briefing about it when you get your return orders.

  5. If you are authorized a POV shipment, which to Germany you would be, then the military will ship your vehicle both ways.  Do know that German inspection standards are generally stricter than the US.  Also, if you purchase a car in Germany and it is not US spec. the gov't will not ship it back.  Also the cost of insurance is VERY high... plan on at least doubling what you are currently paying.

Your car will be shipped with Auto Logistics, and their website is listed below.
