I've always just kept my nails looking nice and clean and polished with clear polish. But I wanna go get fake nails. What are they called exactly? I don't want to walk in there and be like "Give me some fake nails." Are they French tips? My mom says I have to get them 're-filled.' What is she talking about?

Help =] Thanks in advance

  1. called acrylic nails, i've had them before, they cost about $70 for the first visit, about once a month you do have to get them re-filled since your nails do grow. thats about $30... if you're willing to spend that money then go for it, theyre gorgeous, but personally, i didn't think they were worth it... and they're never supposed to fall off ... but mine did ?!?

  2. When I get my nails done they call it a "full set of nails".  The put nail tips on the ends of your finger nails with glue and they fill in the areas with acrylic.  Your nail underneath will still grow so every 2 weeks or so you will need to go back and have them "filled in" so you won't be able to see the growth.

    hope this helps :-)

  3. first of all, why don't you just ask you mom this?

get gel nails (they're a little more expensive, but way better for your nails). ask for them to be short. long fake nails are trashy.

every couple weeks you will have to go get them filled because your nails grow. obviously.

you're also better off just growing your natural nails out and then going to get a manicure. it's cheaper, less upkeep, healthier for your nails, and looks better in general.

  4. they are called acrylic nails !

you dont have to get them re-filled that's when you want them for a long time .

you are suppose to have them for at least a week no more than 2 weeks.

when you first get them you might feel as if you cant do anything.

dont do hard work with them because they might chip off and that hurts.

make sure to take care of them because rarely you might get a nail infection where you get discoloration on your nails

too take them off you can either go to the nail salon , nail file them down, or put them under hot water for a long time ;D

  5. Just say you want acrylic tips.  You can pick french - which is a white tip or American - which is neutral and then you can have it painted if you want.  Refilling means you'll have to go back once they start growing out and have the bottoms filled back in - basically, they take off the old acrylic but leave the tip and then add new acrylic, file it down and make it look like a new nail.

  6. DONT GET ACRYLIC... they are very damaging, and make ur natural nails thin, brittle and weak... it will also take years for them to restore once you stop having the fake ones done...

Ask for GEL nails, much more natural looking and not even half as damaging... When ur moms says u have to get them refilled, she means that where your natural nail grows, the fake ones will also grow with the nail, so you will get a gap between the bottom of your cuticle and the fake nail.... refilling means a whole new layer of the gel to fill the gap- this needs doing every 3 weeks, so you gotta consider the maintenance...

Other than that, you can get french tips, or a pretty design airbrushed on, any colour... you can choose anything :D

Go to a nail bar, or a salon and have a look around first so you can get some ideas :)

  7. i get them done all the time. just walk in the salon and say "i want you get my nails done" or something like that.thats what i say and she automatically knows that i want fake nails. or say you want a manicure.

  8. maybe this site will help http://www.nails-guide.com/

  9. re-filled mean when you have those nails your real nail grow so the fake one keeps moving up so there is a gap between your fake nail and your cuticle area so they fill it so it looks better/more real

    there usually called acrylic nails

  10. get a french manicure fake nails lol ya im a thumbs up on the idea

  11. They are called tips. They will paint whatever you want on them as if they were real nails. i.e french manicure etc.

When your nails grow you will have a space between your cuticle and the tip which needs to be filled so that the real nail matches up to the fake nail.

  12. French tips, the end or the whole nail.  I think they look nice, but you do have to get them filled as your nails grow.  They also make your own nail brittle and weak underneath.  You should not leave them on for a real long time because your nail can not breathe and bacteria will form.  xox

  13. they put some fake jell nails on  and they stay on your nails for a really long time but every month or so you have to go back and get them filled in cus the fake nails grow out with your normal nails so they have to fill in the gap after they grow and i would just ask for gel nails and they will probably ask you what kinds and stuff

  14. They're called acrylic nails. You can go in and ask for a "full set" tho. They will know what you're talking about. "Re-filled" or a "fill in" is what you'll need a couple of weeks after your nails have grown and you need them freshened up. French tips are when the tips of your nails are painted white. You can also ask for 'American'. The tips are not as bright but still very very pretty. I like American better on myself actually. Looks natural. Anyway, hope this helps.

  15. They are acrylic nails.  Re-filling refers to adding more acrylic in a liquid form near the base of your nail as the fake nails grow out, and then sanding it down.  French tips refers to painting the nail a tan or pink color, and then adding white nail polish to the tips.  Many people who get acrylic nails choose French tips, but people with natural nails can French tip theirs too.  Basically, if you ask for French tips, they won't automatically assume that you want acrylic nails.

  16. they are called tips. you can get them any color you want but if you want french you can ask for french tips hope i helped!!

  17. just ask for a french manicure and dont worry about teh specifics and looking dumn when you explain just tell them what you want and watch them. Remember that if you're paying for service they better get it right.

dont forget to go in to the salon knowing what length you want and it would help that you have a little nail of your own to make the it look more natural

  18. Fake nails are just plastic that you glue on that look like French manicured nails. The glue is kind of annoying if you don't apply it properly it sticks on everywhere! Go to a chemist if you want them there are quite expensive but worth it if you have a lot of money i would recommend you would go to a beauty shop to get them done properly.I use the fake nails which i do myself at home i usually file them to a certain lenght before putting them because it can lead to them become quite painful in everyday use.If you are getting them done in a beauty shop i would recommend you ask for fake nails to be put on and filed.Your mother must be talking about getting them done again after they were away.Best of luck.=]

  19. yes, they are called tips. And to get them re-filled means that as your nails grow, you can start to see the natural right under the fake nail, almost like the fake nail is moving up on your finger. You get them re-filled  so that people can't tell your real nails are growing in. It costs less to get them re-filled than to get them put on the first time.

  20. its called getting acrylic nails put on. usually you can get them painted however you want, but a french manicure usually costs a little more. You can spend more and get "solar nails" or "french tips" but I have never gotten them so I do not know what those are really.

A regular acrylic set should cost around $25 to be put on and painted. About every two weeks you go back and get them filled and re-painted and that should cost you about $15 each time. You can get them filled many many times before you need to take them off and let your nails show for a few days, then you can start with a new set.

    Hope that helps!

  21. You can either get Acrylic nails, or Gel Nails. They end up looking about the same, they're just using different materials to do them.

And yes, if you want them white on the ends, they're called french tipped. You can get Acrylic nails without the white on the end, so make sure you say you want them French Tipped.

And you will have to get them re-filled yes. Your nails grow, but the "fake nail" doesn't. So it will grow out on your nail cause your real nail to show close to the cuticle. So every couple of weeks (or whenever it really starts to bother you) you go back and they sand down the nail and will re-apply acrylic or gel and it will make them look brand new again. It does cost money to get them filled everytime. It's costly but it does look nice.

  22. acrylics, a full set, they'll get the idea
