My wife and I would like to go to Ireland in the winter, we would like to rent a cottage in a quiet country area , my family heritage is Irish and I would just like to spend some time just being a local, especially hanging out in a pub. Any suggestions on an area?

  1. maybe the area your family actually came from??? why does everyone want to be irish, you can't just say you are irish without naming a specific place that your ancestors lived. and if you don't know - find out!

  2. As said, winter can be pretty bleak...but also nice, when you're snuggled up with a roaring fire. The south-east is the mildest part, weather-wise, so if this is what you're looking for, then Wicklow or Wexford would be nice. But I'd recommend somewhere over the West, maybe in Galway, Kerry or Donegal. Beautiful places, and there are quite a few rural towns so you shouldn't have any problem on that front. Have a look at the links below for some ideas. Enjoy your stay.

  3. It gets pretty bleak in the country side in winter.

I suggest you choose somewhere near the sea as it can be awsome when the winter winds blow.

My preferred choice would be around the wicklow wexford area as they are both beautiful areas but any coastal town would be nice.
