  1. I would also stick to capris.  Shorts are not usually acceptable for women in Europe.  Also do not hand your passport to someone in the street even if you think they are a policeman.  We had someone try to get my husband to bring out his passport.  They posed as a policeman.

  2. Um, shorts and a t-shirt makes you stand out like a tourist.  Dress in nice casual slacks and a short sleeve button down shirt.  Be sure to keep your wallet in your front pocket because bands of thieves prey on tourists in most of the major cities in Italy.

  3. I can say to you that now it's very hot!

    have a nice trip!

    Ciao!

  4. I don't think that shorts are the best idea, unless you're on the beach.  If you'll be in major cities, stick to capris or longer pants.

Good walking shoes too, that aren't sneakers.

  5. That all sounds goods as long as some of it will cover your knees and shoulders or you will not be able to get into may places. Also the "sidewalks" are very rocking so you dont' want heals you want good walking shoes.

  6. Italians and Europeans in general are very stylish and put a lot more thought into what they wear than Americans do.

    A few tips:

-- You can never go wrong with black.

-- Italians don't do over-sized t-shirts or tank tops that aren't fitted or tailored. They also don't wear shorts (although a new trend is the kind of short/capri pant that hits just below the knee).

-- Summer is Italy is hot and sticky (although this year we've been getting bouts of rain, so go figure). Some nice dresses or skirts and tops will keep you cool but not have you stick out as a tourist. A sweater should be fine for evening.

-- Always carry a wrap (scarf) to wrap around your shoulders or around your waist to go into churches. No bare arms/shoulders or short skirts allow.

-- Italian women accessorize -- so a put together look with sunglasses, headbands, jewelry belt, etc. will make you look more local. And for easy packing bring neutral colors that mix and match and then use accessories to change your outfit (I'm starting to feel like a Glamour article but I guess they are right.)

-- You'll be doing a lot of walking so shoes are important, but Italians don't wear sneakers (unless they are expensive designer sneakers). This is where I would recommend you invest a bit in a very comfortable pair of all-purpose walking shoes or sandals. I like Ecco, Clarks, Geox -- all expensive brand names but your feet will thank you (although I got a great pair of black Clarks at TJ Maxx for $20 so if you search you may get lucky).

-- Don't carry a backpack. This signals you out as a tourist and actually is less safe than a shoulder bag that you hold close to your body and always keep a hand on.

    Have a great trip!

  7. No flip flops.... the cities are dirty. It's been pretty cool in the north and the usuall sunmmer heat in the south.

What's the style? What type of clothes... A linen suit always goes down well in Italy. Fashion style polo's and linen pants. Fashion sneakers and not your basket ball shoes.... Converse sneaks have a big going these days in Italy.

  8. Normal clothes you would take on holiday ie. shorts & t-shirt so on but take warmer clothes as it tends to be quite a bit colder at night and u cant always plan for weather

  9. ahhh ahh ahh..i know who are you and u know who i am..is not true that u tomorrow come in italy!why u write lies???ahh ahh ahhh.the 4 august i arrive in manila....dont say lies....ahhh ahhh ahhhh...

  10. Don't take too much clothes from here because your gonna love shopping at their markets and buying their clothes over there! You probably need to take summer clothes (tank tops, sun dresses, shorts, capris, and jeans) and then like a light jacket. The churches are GORGEOUS I couldn't even emphasize, so go visit one and bring a nice outfit with you...casual. You are EXTREMLEY lucky because they are the ones that set the trends for America. One year I went and they had leggings...couple months later, when i was back in America...LEGGINGS. lol. So watch their styles more then anything!! What's really in right now over there is the punk look and anything black, especially with the teenagers. also the light linen looking clothing...like those linen cloth looking pants and dresses. Sunglasses are a big deal over there...and if your going shopping, dress casual...it's not like America...you can't just wear jeans and a tee. Usually the weather is sunny with a light breeze and then at night it's kind of chilly so it's great. Take a bathing suit of course!! But I'm telling you most of all don't take too much because you will be buying alot...and if your going to Rome it's SCORCHING hot so get sunblock and wear light clothing! Have as much fun as you can and don't waste time, ITALY IS SPECTACULAR!!! Divertirsi! :)

ps- everything is good. gelati, food, boys, anything shopping, scenery....everything!!

  11. you should bring some shirts , pants and some.......t-shirts .

  12. Dont read thee answers that others have posted!! I did and went like a "non-tourist" and repented having read this msg board! Returned yesterday after staying in ROme, FLorence and Venice for 10 days.

Regular dress.. Shorts and sneakers and maybe some shoulder covered dress (particularly if u are a woman) and if u dont want to war a cape that the church provides!

The only place that I saw that they did not provide a cape is in Vatican city!
