  1. You can bring back-to-school items for the kids and toys like soccer ball. Jamaican kids love soccer. It would be a cool idea to call a home and see what they are mostly in need of there.

Here is a link to the children's homes and their contact numbers. The ones that say "St. Ann" are in the Ocho Rios area.

If you are bringing items to give away take general stuff that does not have to be sized. Something that everyone would appreciate and find use for. No Levi's Jeans...lol or any clothes, for that matter, unless it is for someone you have known before and were told their size.

  2. Back to school supplies, girls/ladies would like nice custume jewelry, clothing, and food items comes to mind right away. If you know the folks ask them.

  3. im jamaican and used to live in kingston! mothers and especially fathers get very hostile when tourist come as if they are a charity, offering things. dont bother unless you like to be cursed out in patois :D

  4. see this site http://travel-carl.blogspot.com/

    maybe it will help you...

    good luck...;)

  5. 1. If you are talking about kids at a local school, you cant go wrong with books. Particularly books designed to make kids more interested in reading and learning from the basic level and upwards.

Think about strong, hardcover books that can handle the wear and tear of an elementary or primary school with hyperactive kids.

    2. Sporting goods such as footballs (soccer) and cricket bats are also good, but are very easy to get missing after a few months. I guess this is a problem with any item but worst for sporting goods. kids are just kids. they will shred a football in two weeks if you give them the chance! lol.

    3. if you are on the cashy side, computers purchased within the last 3 years could also be handy. older computers might be just as useful, but if the school doesnt have the $$ to maintain it or upgrade it a computer that is too old could be dead or useless in a few months. Get a new surge protector or UPS with any computer donation.

If you are getting stuff for individuals (not schools)...ask first, so as not to seem condescending.

  6. Can/2% milk in the storage container, pampers, snacks, art supplies, children books, after asking their need and what is most exspensive.I would bring as much as I could plus some cameras for me to take pictures......Blessings Yahoo
