Going to lake district today?

Just going for short weekend, wondered if there is anything in particular we should do - it's just me and my hubby.

Loads of walking - then relax in the local pub !!

Walking, shopping in somewhere like bowness or ambleside. Also in Ambleside they have a really nice veggie restraunt with a cinema called Zeffirellis which is really nice. There is the aquarium of the lakes if you get fed up of the sights and walking but im sure you wont!!

Depends what you like.....If you like walking then there are more than enough things to do.....

If you like quaint villages try Cartmel....I live nearby....three nice pubs, two lovely restaurants, craft shops and old priory to look around....

If you are into Stately homes try Sizergh castle or Muncaster Castle....

There is the steam railway at Ravenscar.....you can cruise on Windermere...in fact the list is endless.

Plan loads of drives around the lakes!

I went last week and absolutely loved it! I liked Buttermere and Crummock water the most, it was georgous and very remote. The drive to Buttermere was absolutely stunning.

You HAVE to do honiston pass which takes you to Buttermere - that road is absolutely insane!!! just make sure you car has decent brakes before doing it!

You can also do canoeing, etc on many of the Lakes. I really liked Coniston Lake, it was peaceful and you can get a boat or canoe on Coniston.

I personally found Windermere a bit too busy and commercialized, but you might like it. The lake itself is very nice.

You could also visit Keswick which is fairly close to Buttermere and Crummock - we did Keswick then went onto Buttermere and Crummock on the same day. The whole drive was really nice, and if you go from Windermere to Kewick, then to Buttmere & Crummock you pass about 4 of the lakes in total and see loads of amazing scenery. It was by far the best drive we did.

We stayed in Troutbeck near Windermere which was very nice.

Ullswater is also a nice lake.

Also, loads of walking and hiking ofcourse!
