Going to learn to play the guitar and I already play the violin, should I choose acoustic or electric?

I already play the violin so based on that, would it make one easier than the other? My friend and I are going to learn together but she's never played an instrument before, so maybe she'll be holding me back because I already know so much about music. I plan to help her with as much as I can though.

It depends which kind of music you want to play, electric can be for more of rock and roll. But it could be easier. Hope I could help, Sorry if I didn't!

Please learn both.  It will cost you a few extra bucks, but in the long run you are going to benefit greatly.

For the electric, I suggest a solid body.

If you have friends who play ask what they use and how they like it.

Buy an acoustic that can be played both ways.  Gibson, Ovation, Takemine all make acoustic guitars that can play both ways.  Go to your local guitar shop and ask.

Most people will tell you that electric guitar is easier to start out on.  Honestly though I think it all depends on the kind of music you're interested in.  Considering you already play the violin, I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say that you are more into classical music, so an acoustic would suite your needs better.

I think you should decide based on the sound you like best & what kind of music you like to play. The acoustic is rougher on your fingers but perhaps you already have callouses from the violin anyway.  If you go acoustic you might want to check out a smaller size (called 3/4 or auditorium size). They don't have as much volume but are more comfortable to play than a full size.

i have an eletric guitar and I play french horn and it was too much for me so i decided to put all of my time and energy on band and my baby (instrument) i think if you can handle it that you should play acoustic.     :)
