I'm going to Los Cabos in May. we have booked an all-inclusive trip. Where is the best place to switch from dollars to pesos, without having to worry about getting ripped off? Also the activities prices on the booking site were soo expensive, can i probably get them cheaper when i'm in mexico with cash? What are good things to do in San Jose Del Cabo? Is that city safe?

  1. Switch from dollars to pesos at the airport.  They won't rip you off.  You can try to arrange activities through your hotel - many hotels/resorts offer this service.  Sorry, I have never been to San Jose.

  2. Do not exchange your money at an  AIRPORT ANY WHERE IN THE WORLD.

The  ATMs are everywhere and you will get what your bank in the U.S.A. is giving you on that day and a fee for using it you will be asked to agree with just like at home.

DONT DRINK THE WATER.  YOU KNOW HOW MANY IDIOTS TAKE THAT SERIOUSLY and end up with swollen ankles and knees from de hydration

    IS YOUR CITY SAFE?

  3. Any money exchange place is fine as long as they give you over $10.60 pesos per $1.00 US dollar. San Jose del Cabo is very safe and hotel and bottled water is 100% drinkable.

  4. Well, I have been to several cities in Mexico and all of them loved the ole American dollar.  But, I beleive you can change your money at a bank here in the USA.  Ask your bank.  Yes, you cna get the tours, etc. cheaper when you get there.  I'm not sure what cities are safe, but try not to be too far from your hotel after dark....OK?  I hope this helps.

  5. Dollars are accepted everywhere, use your credit card where you can, so you have cash for small shopping stores.

If you want to change pesos, you need to know that are two rates, buy and sell, and the difference is more than 5 cents, so if you finish your trip with pesos, you will loose in the exchange back to dollars.

The prices on the activities are fix, and even if you pay with cash (sometimes is the only option) won't change, because the commissions are small, and nobody will give them away.

If you want to save on activities, the only option is going to a time share presentation, some people love to save $200 USD in exchange for a 2 hours breakfast, but some people want to avoid them all time, your choice.

San Jose is safe, as long as you take your precautions always. Last week somebody was robed at the ATM, but he was alone, and it was 2 AM, no so smart anywhere in the world.

San Jose is a quiet town, nice small bars like Shooter's and the new Baja Brewery, but that's about it. If you are looking for party, you will have to go to Cabo San Lucas, a good option is the bar hopping tour.

I hope this may help you.

    Enjoy Cabo.

  6. Ya... just do not drink the water.. ice might not be safe either. stick with bottled water. and sometimes the things are cheaper last minute..

  7. Los Cabos is very expensive, whether you book things on line or once you get there. One time me and two friends had to get a taxi-van from the airport to the hotel (like 20 mins from there) for about $90. The most expensive taxi I've ever paid for.

  8. Not totally sure, i went to Puerto Vallarta. The Riu hotel was great!!! You should like or enjoy eating hot Mexican food 'cause that's what they would serve depending on which hotel you stay at.

Hope your trip is wonderful and has good weather!!!

    Hope this helps!

  9. DO NOT DRINK THE WATER.

  10. Hola.  First off, if you come down with the attitude that you will get ripped off, you will !!  Don't bring much money with you, you can use the ATM machines to take out money, they give the best rate for pesos anyways.  If you want to bring some US cash, you can pretty well use it instead of pesos down here.  I've never heard of anyone not accepting dollars....maybe the odd small store.  Rare.

Los Cabos is a resort town with millions of americans visiting annually.  You will think you are just in an extension of California.

You won't find much a difference in the price of activities, it is very saturated.  But online booking usually saves you about 10%.  You won't get that if you turn up with cash.  Check out this website www.loscabosguide.com for discounts.

San Jose del Cabo is the quieter, sleepier version of Cabo San Lucas.  The towns are about 20 minutes apart, joined by a freeway that we call 'the corridor'.

Both cities are extremely safe for Mexico.  Cabo San Lucas tends to come alive at night when the nightclub scene is roaring.  With that comes the prostitutes, and lowlifes that hang around and watch the tourists get blotto'ed and some do have bad intensions.  Always good to go in a group and not get stinking drunk.  There is no nightlife in San Jose.

Come on down with an open mind and enjoy your holiday!
