Going to monash university?

my husband and iare going to start taking a short course in monash university next year for 3 months and we know nothing about living in australia. Since we should prepare all by ourself we want to now about life cost a month in aussie, what about food because we dont eat pork, whats better for us staying in dormitory (kind like that) or someting like home stay. Please help?
