Going to musical in Westend - do I need to wear fancy clothes?

I think we're going to the Queens theatre when we visit London. I was just wondering are you supposed to dress up or is it ok to wear nice jeans and trainers? Nice top? I dont want to have to pack my formal clothes!

Theatre's are not as formal as they once were, i take people there on a regular basis dressed like tramps.

Most people say that jeans and trainers are comfortable, i agree, particularly when I'm painting the outside of my house or walking down to the shop, but the theatre no way, it's just bone idle, make an effort, set a precedence you will not go un noticed if you are smartly turned out.

After all, you've made the effort to get the tickets, made the journey to London, so why not make an effort to dress reasonably well.

You dont need to overdress but not may people wear jeans and trainers to the westend , But it depends what you go and see i dressed fairly smart to see Mary popins but wore jeans to see Spamalot as there 2 totally different shows.

I was a bit shocked the first time I went out to see a show in the UK. Unless it's a gala opening, no one dresses up (it's a shame... ) People show up in jeans, trainers and munch on snacks during the performance - it's a bit like going to the movies. I found it distracting.

I personally still like the idea of going out for the evening so my friend and I got semi-dressed up and went for dinner beforehand. I wore a cute summer dress and open-toed flats, with a pashmina in my bag for walking back after dark.

You don't have to dress up these days ive seen people in jeans and trainers etc I went to see Billy Elliot 2 weeks ago and wore a summer dress, gladiator sandals and a light cardigan.

I would suggest a day dress or a nice top and jeans - nothing too over the top. For footwwear what about a pair of flats or some sandals? Make sure you pack a cardigan or something especially if its an evening show as you don't want to be cold!!!
