  3. Indian currencies can be exchanged even in small shop/ stalls and hotel everywhere. But 1000 and 500 Denominates are not acceptable there. You suppose to take with you 100 denotes then it's easy to exchange every part of the Nepal.

    INR. 100/- = NPR . 160/-

  4. I lived in India for three years and traveled to Nepal often.  I found that some places would take Indian Rupees and some wouldn't.  Most preferred Nepalese Rupees however.

If you are staying at a major hotel then they can usually convert it for you at a competitive rate.  If not, they will tell you were you can do it.  Only stick with major banks (Bank of America or some such) or major money changers like Western Union.  Every place you go to change money though will ask for your passport so make sure you don't leave it at the hotel.

If the hotel asks for your passport when you check in, as some do, make sure you reclaim it when you go out to change money.

  5. yep

  6. Nepal law do not allow any foreign currency to be used in Nepal including Indian currency. You have to exchange the currency through authorized exchanger like Bank, Money exchanger etc. You may be asked for passport or identity card. You will find those exchanger everywhere like you mentioned Sonauli or Raxual or in Nepal. The exchange rate is about 1IC = 1.6NC. Please note that Rs. 500 and above are not exchanged in Nepal even by a bank as those value notes are banned in Nepal due to fake notes. The Nepal-India border areas may accept Indian currency.

  7. You can change Indian currency even in shops and other places as well. But do not take Rs. 1000 , 500 Denominates. These cannot be changed there. You have 100, 50, 10, 5 etc. those can be changed any shops.
