Going to outdoor Rod Stewart concert with Nikon D200. Best settings for inexperienced photographer? Flash?

As already mentioned, see if the venue will allow DSLR's.  A lot won't.

Forget flash.  You'll simply light up the first 20-60 feet of the foreground.

Meter for something on the stage that you can meter correctly.  Performance lighting can drive your TTL metering crazy.  I shoot manually under the circumstances you are probably facing.

I generally shoot night concerts at about ISO 800-1600.  You will probably be using a long zoom, or at least a longer lens, and camera motion is magnified by the length of the lens.  Figure you want a shutter speed of about the focal length of the lens, or higher.  A higher ISO will help get you there and help with stopping motion.

First off check with the venue to see if they will allow you to bring an SLR. Many will not. The last thing you want is for it to be confiscated.

Depending on where your sitting bring the longest fastest lens you have. Set the ISO to 400 or so. Flash will be useless unless you are on the stage so don't bother with bringing one.
