Pattaya has pretty good beaches, a friendly atmosphere and excellent nightlife. If you go to Jomtien (beach area), you are right in the middle of it.

Bangkok has the reputation of interesting nightlife, but Pattaya the selection.

Cheap beer, great atmosphere,  lots of comradeship and plenty of companionship.  

Kind of like the Disney ride Pirates of the Caribbean for adults.

From Bangkok it is a cheap price to get to Pattaya, only around 120 baht for the VIP bus from Ekamai bus station.  Ekamai is right off a skytrain stop too.  Make sure you get the bus that takes around 2 hours not the slower 4-5 hour bus.

Hotels are cheaper in Pattaya than Phuket or Bangkok.  You will get your bus money back with the first night in a hotel in Pattaya for the same quality hotel.   Pattaya Beach is okay for walking, jogging, sunbathing, shopping, restaurants, bars and malls - BUT most foreigners swim at Jomtien or even Naklua.  Many hotels, even some of the cheaper hotels have pools.  

Lots of malls, three movie theaters,  many street vendors, flea markets, cheap and expensive restaurants, lots of hotel choices in all price ranges.   Travel agencies handle the tour bookings.  Lots of cheap internet shops all over.  Lek Hotel and Apex Hotels have good CHEAP "all you can eat" breakfast buffets - open to the public.  

Transportation in Pattaya is pretty cheap, only 10 baht for a songthaew (pick-up truck with seats in back.)  These rides are set routes, if you tell the driver where to go then you pay a custom rate.    If you have a hotel near or off Pattaya 2nd Road (also called Pattaya Sai Song,) you can walk to many places.  For a ride North get a baht bus on Pattaya 2nd Road, for a baht bus ride South get a baht bus going South on Beach Road.  

Most of the nightlife is spread  out along (but not limited to) Pattaya 2nd Road and Beach Road from North Pattaya Road to South Pattaya Road, with a concentration near  "Walking Street" at the far South end of Beach Road.  Another concentration of "nightlife" is on and near Soi 8.  All sorts of nightlife - beer bars, go-go bars, fancy nightclubs (like Hard Rock Cafe) and cabarets.  

The best thing about Pattaya is that if you don't like that area it is only a cheap bus ride back to Bangkok!
