So I am going to buy a sportbike from a third party. I know if I was to buy it from a dealer they would charge handling and taxes. However I was wondering if there's any way to get out of paying taxes at the end of the year from buying it from the third party(non-dealer). Any help would be appreciated thanks.

  1. Generally you have to pay tax for the title transfer.  But the cool thing about a private seller is their usually cool about fudging the price on the title, so if you buy a bike for 3000 you can put 1500 or less on the title.  And sometimes you can even have them gift it to you(tax free).

  2. You mean a private seller. You don't have to pay any taxes if you buy it from a private seller.

  3. u dont have too but from dealer u will have too

  4. in most states Joe, You will have to pay tax, and they will want it before you get your plates.

  5. In the  Commonwealth of Kentucky You pay tax when You register the vehicle, regardless of where it was bought.
