Going to rui merengue 24/03 can anyone tell me if the ice at the hotel is likely to be factory made (safe)?

Sorry but the answer from Steph is wrong!!

The ice in the hotels (Riu) is ok for you. There is no one food served in this hotels witch is bad, or contaminated! Everything is generaly cleaner then back home (restaurants) dear!

Yes, very likely.  You will know if it has a hole in it, just like the bagged ice in the states.  Just stay away from lettuce and cabbage.  It tends to be contaminated and not properly cleaned.
