I've always wanted to try homeschooling, but have never been able to convince my mom to let me do it. I'm going into 8th grade and this will be my last year of middle school. My mom agreed to watch my grades and see how I behave during the first semester, and if she likes what she sees, then I can do online homeschool.

Is this possible to only do the last semester? What online homeschool programs do you know that do this?

Also, I've been curious to know if you get ahead/fall behind, learn more, or be happy homeschooling. Share your experiences with it if you'd like.

  1. Well I'm now 25 and my bit of wisdom is simply this : you should try home schooling the whole year. I think its a major disadvantage to take you out that late in the year. Especially, when most home school programs aren't designed the same as  your basic public education school. For example, I dropped out my senior year of high school (long story but, just to let you know it was not just to drop out and I ended up going to college and becoming a teacher).  Anyway, I heard about this home schooling program out of Front Royal VA (right now the name escapes me) however, because it was half way though the year whatever courses I was in hadn't counted because they didn't match up. I had to start over with their courses and because I had finished certain requirements of my former school I had to take fillers in order to complete their min. required credits. I'm not saying all programs are like this but, this is what I have experienced.

So, it is possible to do last semester ,however, IMO not practical . As far as falling behind or getting ahead goes it's up to you. I ended up never completing it because I was to easily distracted with life at that point.  Was I happy? yes, the pressure release is great....just stay well rounded and socialize...volunteer ...you should be fine. If I were you stay ahead if possible . It maybe possible to complete your diploma though your local county/community college at the age of 16 and have a associates degree. Though the 30 credits to a high school diploma option which is available in some states.

    Hope this helps....
