Going to see Nightwish/Sonata Arctica, what will it be like?

It's my first concert ever. I really enjoy the bands music and I was determined to go to the concert when they came to Montreal. A few questions:

1) The concert will be at Metropolis, what's the venue like? I've heard it's just a room with a stage in front, is this accurate at all?

2) I'm no metal-head, but Nightwish is considered Metal I suppose... what should I do in terms of clothes (I was thinking jeans with a gray t-shirt).

3) What's the atmosphere like? I read in another question that the crowds are pretty moderate in terms of moshing.

Thanks in advance :D

  1. both Nightwish and Sonata Arctica are metal bands, they are in a sub genre known as power metal, which is more epic, EXTREMELY melodic, and having more old European music roots as influence added with a little speed metal and catchy choruses, the vocalists usually have a wide range and sing clean, you don't hear growling in power metal.

Usually people don't mosh to power metal bands, 80% of the people there will be wearing band t-shirts, most likely black, gotta buy a tour t-shirt while your there, heh, so these shows are really safe compared to the more heavier style metal shows or even that of pop bands with crazed fans, you can sit back and relax, expect an epic/symphonic intro to play before any of the bands appear on stage, this is usually how it goes, heh. Regardless of the crowd, the show will have A LOT of energy, this is just the way power metal is designed, the music always has a lot of energy, and it will be pretty uplifting. Both bands perform very well live too. Not too sure about Nightwish's new singer Anette though, mostly seen live videos with older singer.

here's a live video of Sonata Arctica's song "san sebastian" if you haven't heard much of their stuff, just so you get a feel of what to expect, they tend to play this song a lot, as well as black sheep if you can find that song somewhere.
