Going to the Bahia Principe in north dominican rep. any1 else been?

ive looked up reviews on trip advisor and other holiday websites and they all seem to be pretty good! i cant find anywhere to find out if the actual resort is close to the centre or any towns. any reviews would be appreciated!!

I'm having the same dilemma as yourself - me and my girlfriend are due to go to the Bahia Principe at the end of the month; reviews generally seem positive but we're concerned over the food poisoning scares and the lack of white sand beaches!  

We have spoken to our travel agent about changing resorts but are yet to decide. I'll watch this question with interest!

Sorry but hated the North of D.R and hated the Bahia Principe even more. We can only recommend you go to Punta Cana instead. Puerto Plata is full of sand flies (well it was when we were there and everyone got bitten to death) As for Bahia Prin. we did not enjoy this hotel at all, and the entertainment there is sooooooooo boring. We have been several times to Punta Cana and loved it each time. I wrote a strong review of the Bahia Prin. on trip advisor so you can read it for yourself.

Sorry but if they gave us all free flights and a month in Bahia Prin. we wouldn´t go back if they paid us!!!!! Hope you like it better than us. You can go into Cabarete or Sosua but don´t believe all you read about those towns either, they are supposed to be nice little towns full of hippy surfers etc, but they weren´t much more than a few shops (if you can call them that) and a few beach bars. The only good thing to say about the North of D.R is Ocean World Adventure Park that WAS worth a visit!

i went to the bahia principe 4 years ago,the beach was c**p,the food was awful,the hotel itself is very isolated,the previous year i went to bavaro in the south of the island,this was like paradise with white sand and crystal clear sea,i would recommend changing to the south of the island,in the north you dont feel like you are on a caribbean holiday at all,i would not recommend the bahia principe!!!

Bahia Principe is located near Rio San Juan about 11/2 hour driving from Puerto Plata (north coast) of the Dominican Republic. This is a reasonable good hotel/resort, but it is a bit isolated from the rest of the world. If you like more action and like to discover you will be obliged to take many excursion to discover this beautiful country. I suggest to change your booking to a resort near Puerto Plata ( Playa Dorada for example). Anyway enjoy your vacations!!!
