Question:

Going to the Dominican Republic with children?

My husband is doing a health internship in the DR for 8 weeks in July/August, and he has asked that the children and I come with him. We have three boys, ages 7, 5, and 3. And we have a baby girl, who will be 10-11 months while we're there. I'm worried about keeping them busy and having adequate food and water for them. What are options for water, especially for baby bottles? And what about infant formula - should I pack all the formula and baby food I'll need, or can I buy it there? I have no idea what to expect - I'm excited for the experience we and our children can have, but I'm also a bit apprehensive...any tips from people who have been? Thanks.

  1. You should definitely pack all the formula you will need for the baby since they might not have the one you currently use (it happened to me once where they had a similar version but the same). As per the water deal I would strongly suggest you buying one of those big 5 gallons containers of water or normal gallon they sell at any grocery store or supermarket which would be fine for the boys. However I would suggest you boil the water for the baby’s formula since babies have less immune power. I have personally travel with my two girls since their birth (I go every year with my 6 and 2 year old) and had no problems with them getting sick, thanks God. Most likely you will find everything you find here in the states with few exceptions, good luck and safe trip.

  2. As you must know they have babies and of course children in the Dominican Republic.

So there is everything available for the small and very small kids in the supermarkets and all the medicine if necessary. This is not a 3th world country, so please stop worrying about things sometimes telling, they generally talks stupid things to make themselves interesting. So dear mun just keep it cool everything here is good for the kids and so much to do.

Water for the baby bottle? no problem at all! and infant formula? enough in the stores.

    Happy to help you

  3. I'll feel sooooooooo sorry for you. You are not going to have no fun or no time to do anything. I have gone with my daughter 3 times and let me tell you it was not nice. She is 3 and only child. She got sick, hospitalized, eaten by mosquitoes, change her attitude, forgot her English and forget it she wasn't my daughter, she change completely. I was not happy at all, and each time we went i had to bring everything for her to eat, and we only spend 1 month or less each trip.

  4. In all seriousness, expect bad things.  I could joke saying one of the kids will end up in white slavery and another will end up strung out on drugs, but no one would believe me.

Just keeps the kids in the states.
