Question:

Going to the toilet at School?

Everyday my daughter returns home from school absoulutely busting for the toilet. Intrigued I had to ask why she doesn't just use the school toilet before leaving school. Apparently if the children need to use the loo during lesson time they are deducted 10 min per toilet break from their lunch and recess time, and the toilets are then locked before the end of day school bell.

No wonder the children are about to wet themselves on walking through the door! The previous Principle bought this rule in to affect but it hardly seems healthy for a child to hold on that long. I also think it's wrong to punish a child for a normal bodily function.

Do all schools have this in place?

  1. Noo, I don't have that at my school. That's not right. :[[

  2. No.

  3. Wow, no, I've never heard of that. It might be that the children were abusing leaving class to go to the bathroom, but even if that's true it hardly justifies that kind of rule. That just doesn't seem healthy, I think you should express your concerns to the principal or at least the teacher.  Good luck.

  4. I would contact the school board about this policy. All doctors will tell you it is unhealthy to hold it especially for girls.

  5. Of course this is insane.  On the other hand, most schools require that children ask permission before taking care of bodily functions, and that is also insane.

  6. That sounds like the children are being mistreated.  Complain to the school board, and consider filing a complaint with the police.

  7. When I was a child I got frequent UTI and my doctor wrote a note that let me get out as much as possible to use the restroom. Most kids got a certain amount of passes a month to use the restroom. I think it is a horrible rule!

  8. Children shouldn't be punished for needing to go to the bathroom unless they are going hourly and have no known medical condition.

And I don't think the bathrooms should ever be locked.

Talk to the new principal about this.

  9. I would write down your concerns and give a copy to your child's teacher and principal.Set up a time to talk to the teacher and just clarify what the situation really is.Could it be your daughter is too embarassed to ask to leave the room.Maybe she is concerned kids will "know" where she is going.Maybe she has misunderstood what the rules are.It could also be she is telling you the truth as strange as it sounds.I would get this sorted out as quickly as possible. If you are not satisfied with what the teacher tells you then go to the principal. You don't say how old your daughter is so that may be important for us to know.Take care.

  10. Wow I've never heard of such a policy. You, and other parents, should complain about this. It's cruel!

  11. i have never heard of that

  12. That is the most cruelest thing I have ever heard. Contact other parents and see about setting up a petition to get this kind of trash rules out of your schools. Tell that principle that the same rules apply to him and see if he waits all day to pee......

  13. Geez, that's really not cool! I haven't heard of any schools doing that.

  14. no.  that sounds crazy!

  15. No,talk to the principle.

  16. My child is in thee 7th grade. I laughed at the beginning of the year when she told me they were allotted "Tinkle Tickets" six for the whole semester.

I can understand teachers not wanting to have many distractions in the classroom, but it is not healthy for children to have to hold it if they have to go.

  17. When I was in High school they locked the bathrooms during class. If you needed to go to the bathroom you were sent to the office for disrupting class. between class there were 5 minutes to get from one class to another and that included sitting in your seat and getting beginning work done. Some schools have this but not all. it is best to complain to the board but I cannot guarantee much will get done

  18. No not all schools are like that. It is a very natural thing to use the restroom and they should not do that to kids. You and some of the other kids parents should get together and talk to the principal.  Tell him the complaints. Also tell him that if your child gets a blatter enfection from having to hold her bodily fluids in then he will be paying the bills. You should also talk to the local police to see what they or you can do about it. To me that has to be some form of abuse. Not allowing a child the optoin to use the restroom during class with out deducting time from there play time or even lunch.

I would even more so suggest putting her in another school that will allow her to be able to go to the restroom and still have her personal time during school

  19. you go to your childs school and demand they stop the practice. i have never in my life heard of such a thing, thank god. if the school won't listen, you go to the school board and make yourself heard. i'll just bet that alot of parents at the school have no idea about this, or they'd be up in arms too. NO WAY. that is completely unhealthy. each child should be allowed 2 bathroom trips a day, at the very least, without being penalized. you know what, that may even be against their human rights??? you should check it out, and give a call over to the school board or any local official you can. man, i'd love to stir the pot like that, you go girl!!

  20. That school would be having some serious issues with me by the end of the day tomorrow because I would be at the school making sure that each faculty member was held to the same standards.  It is very unhealthy for children to "hold it" and can cause urinary tract infections.  If the school refused to discontinue this practice I would make sure the principle knew that I had every intention of reporting them the school board (or governing body) and making sure this issue was brought to public light.

  21. Why doesn't she go during lunch or recess time? How long are we talking about from the end of the last break to the end of school anyway?

It does sound harsh not to let the kids go when they need to - but I've been in classes where the kids thought it was funny for the whole class to ask to go, one after another every two minutes, so the teacher could never explain the lesson to everyone and it was completely disrupted. Your daughter is in class to learn. She should use the toilet in her break times. If she can't last for the duration of a lesson, then you should really take her to see a doctor, and get a note for her to take to the teacher explaining that she has a medical condition.
