Question:

Going to university in Germany???

Ok I'm a college student in the U.S. at the moment & I'm majoring in pre-vet. The only thing is, I also want to major in German Studies and spend this fall (and possibly the rest of my college education) over in Berlin to get a real experience. But I'm pretty sure I want to be a veterinarian so I don't know how that would work... would I be able to go to vet school in Germany?? Because I don't want to live in the U.S. I'm hoping somehow to live in Germany eventually. So if I studied veterinary medicine at a German university, would I be allowed to get a job as a vet in Germany?? Or would I not be allowed to because I'm not a German citizen?? Any help would be great! Thank you!

  2. In Germany the system is different and you start studying veterinary medicine on your first degree, and not as part of a a graduate degree. Most schools are for free or almost for free (no tuition, only administrative fees). However, you have to know German, and you'd better be an EU citizen or married to one to get a job permit. Nevertheless, Germany has a "green card" scheme where also skilled migrants can get work permits, so it is possible that after the studies you will apply and get this work permit.

You can try this to find contacts and more information.
