Going to visit a friend in Sydney next year. What are good cities for short stopovers enroute?

I live in London, UK. Also airline advice would be brilliant too. Could I just buy some kind of multi-stopover ticket? Thank you

Singapore, .Virgin I think.  aanew York, BA or Quantas.

Hi. Last November I went to Sydney via Tokyo which was fantastic. I'd really recommend it. We were there for 2 nights. The food is great, its easy to get around and the prices were great too so ignore everyone who says its expensive, its cheaper than London by far. I departed Oz from Cairns and stopped off in Singapore for 2 nights on the way back. Singapore was great too, but not as exciting and I wouldn't go back but would love to go back to Japan. Bangkok or Hong Kong would probably be great too but I haven't been to either so couldn't say. I booked through Trailfinders and it cost me about £860. Have a great trip. Hope this has helped!! (airlines were BA and Qantas)

not to scare you are anything but australia have had lots of problems with there airplanes in the last month.

don't go with Qantas they have been the worst.
