  1. When you can make yr own vinegrette that helps.  I lived this way for a year & am so glad I made the committment to do so.  I miss it actually.  It will get easier for you as time goes by.

Go in the library and get a Vegan cook book that should help!

  2. another good source of protein is peanut butter so definately pic up an organic kind! its really tastey.

    Here are some good recipes:

Stir fry- You need cut up tofu, soy sauce, olive oil, steamed veggies, and cooked rice

Get a frying pan and coat it with olive oil. The put the tofu in the pan and brown each side of it. Next, add the veggies. Add a little soy sauce and put in the rice. Mix everything up and then let it sit on the stove, occasionally stirring it to make sure it doesn't burn. After about a minute and a half of that put it in a bowl and enjoy!

Hummus- chick peas, lemon juice, paprika, cumin, black pepper, and any other spices/seasonings you like

Puree the chick peas. Then add a little lemon juice, paprika, pepper, and other spices. Then stir. Serve with a pita, with cucumbers, or on a veggie wrap.

    Favorite Classic Pancakes

    1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour

    1 Tbsp. sugar

    2 Tbsp. baking powder

    1/8 tsp. salt

    1 cup soy milk

    2 Tbsp. vegetable oil

Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a bowl and mix thoroughly. Mix in the soy milk and oil, and with a fork or wire whisk, combine just until the batter is smooth.

Pour cup batter onto a hot, oiled griddle. When bubbles form in the center of the pancake, flip. Cook for another 2 minutes. Remove from pan and keep warm while you make remaining pancakes. Serve warm with maple syrup or fruit syrup.

  4. I did a search on ask.co.uk, and found this link:

    http://www.simpleveganrecipes.co.uk/

I had a brief look at it and it seemed helpful  - hope it might be a good source.

    Good luck!

Edited to add- a previous similar question had what seemed excellent advice - hope the link below works (it did when i tested it!).

  5. Unfortunately you're going to have to read the ingredients.  Unless you have a vegan grocery store, get used to it.

Instead of looking for prepared foods with a bunch of ingredients, get a cookbook or two and shop for ingredients.  It's a lot easier to get through the label reading when the ingredient lists are one to five ingredients long.

If you don't like soy milk, try oat milk, almond milk, hazelnut milk, rice milk or hemp milk.  Try other brands also; they don't all taste the same.

As for cookbooks, "Vegan with a Vengeance" by Isa Chandra Moskowitz was the book that really made me realize vegan was doable.  And her new one, "Veganomicon" with Terry Hope Romero is even better.

  6. Instead of soy milk, you can try Almond Breeze (almond milk).

A fast prep meal would be a veggie sandwich:

    Whole grain bread

    Veggie spread/mustard

    Avocado

    Tomato

    Lettuce and/or cucumber slices

    Sprouts

    Slice of vegan cheese

You can also make your own creamy soups by blending in a blender or vitamix:

    Steamed cauliflower

    Olive oil

    Salt and seasonings

    Steamed broccoli cut small

    Steamed carrots cut small

  7. Grab a good vegan cookbook - Vegan Planet is great.

Also, bein vegan is about much more than diet, although diet is a major part of it. Check out vegan.com and veganoutreach.org for information related to vegan living.

  8. Yeah, like the first answer says, peanut butter is good. First few months aftr I went vegan, I ate sooo much peanut butter. I brand I by contains only peanuts, sunflower oil and salt.

I eat a lot of stews.

    Tonight I made one with...

    potatoes

    carrots

    onions

    mshrooms

    cherry tomatoes

    big tomatoes

    chickpeas

    borlotti beans

I just put them in a pot, covered them with water

and once the potatoes were done, I added salt

and pepper and oregano and vegan stock.

    Wallah!
