Goku's friends have a higher potential than him ?

Ok from looking at the DBZ episodes it seems when goku's friends get the same opportunity as goku they seem to power up and become way more powerful than goku was when he first started out. So the question is, would goku's friends have surpassed him at the end of DB if they finished up all the training goku went true.

Well Goku's friends started out more powerful, but because Goku had the most potential, he eventually surpassed them all.

Goku was just a very raw talent who hadn't realized much of his  potential early on.

To tell you the truth, I think no. Reason being, Goku is a Super Sayan and that would give him a big advantage. Maybe at the beginning when Goku first started out. Gohan surpassed his father during the course of his training. Goku is the main character. They definitely would have passed him up on Dragon Ball but not Dragon Ball Z.

Well Goku's potential is more than his friends.But he developes his energy in slow way compared to others.Others can increase their energy at a fast rate but they have limit to increase and at a certain point they falls behind.
