Gold Ship aiming for races in Japan – Horseracing news
Gold Ship is not targeting the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp, as his camp has decided to run him in home races in Japan.
Trainer of the champion stallion Naosuke Sugai revealed, “I have not decided his plan in this autumn, but I would like to make him run in Japan this year. I know many people say we should go to the Arc, but I have lots of candidates to consider and I want
to challenge Orfevre just in Japanese races at first.”
The Japanese runner has a phenomenal record and there have been only a couple of occasions, when he dropped out of the top-three. He has done a really good job for his team in the ongoing season, thus he was expected to appear in some major events in the
United Kingdom.
However, that does not seem likely at the moment with Gold Ship lined up for some important competitions back home. He has already won a couple of events this year and his camp will be hoping for a strong show towards the end of the year.
Overall, the four-year-old colt has participated in a total of 11 races, winning seven of them, which shows that he has the ability to fight for the top position with consistency. Other than that, he has finished as a runner up on a couple of times.
Although the talented runner started off his career under a different jockey, he has enjoyed most of the success with Hiroyuki Uchida, who is growing stronger with the passage of time.
While Gold Ship is busy preparing for the upcoming races in Japan, another stallion from his country Hokko Tarumae is continuing to impress one and all with his performances. He managed to win the Teio Sho (Grade 1) on Wednesday, which was his second victory
in this class.
According to the winning trainer Katsuichi Nishiura, “I thought my horse's foot work was better than Nihonpiro Ours's so I thought we would win at the time. He didn't hate this yielding ground at all. He is still young so I expect he will be stronger much
more.”
It will be interesting to see when Gold Ship and Hokko Tarumae take on each other in Japan. The former of the two might have a slight edge, but things will not be easy for him.
