Gold flake,is it pure gold or do they add something to it?

can i melt the gold flake down and have pure gold or do they put something in it when makeing the flake

  1. There are different qualities of gold leaf if this is what you're referring to. Most of it i that you see in a craft store is  not over14k. If it is 24k (pure gold) it would cost about $40-50 for a pkg of those 3" square sheets. Keep in mind the leaf is very thin, melted down one pkg would be very little gold.


  2. kim k is right.  It's gold, but probably not really concentrated (not PURE gold, just a few things in it that naturally get added as it gets washed downstream).

    When I was in Alaska those flakes were what you found when you went panning for gold.  They didn't add anything.  The gold you find in the little bottles is probably straight for a river and shipped.  You can melt it, but you won't get much out of it.

  3. I think it's pure.  I don't know how you would melt it though.
