Gold help!?

well my son has just decided to clean his uncles £1000 9 ct gold chain by putting it in bleach. the chain now has a black tinge to it. i have rinsed it, cleaned it again with washing up liquid but it still looks bad.

will this affect the value as he asked my son to clean it as he was due to sell it! or can i save it? what damage has been done??? someone help please!

  1. My ring fell off in the rice once and got cooked in it! It went black, but it came out alright in the end, try scrubbing it with soda crystals


  2. Bleach has an acid content and will attack metals......yes it will have reduced the price.  You need to take it to a jeweller, they may be able to put it into a gold plating bath to remove the blackening...

  3. He should have washed it with Coke or Pepsi..... It has lost it's value.

  4. irreversable chemical reaction. take it to a jeweler to be buffed.
