No gold is not a mineral. It is an element. In an agricultural term, mineral is utilised by a plant to maintain life. Gold is inert as is argon and helium etc and has no role in the function of a plant - it can be used in genetic enegineer in plants but that is about shooting DNA into a cell.

Gold prices rise and fall due to supply and demand. The price is also artificially inflated but the US government by with holding gold in places like Fort Knox to reduce the market supply.
