So the 2008 Olympic Games are coming to a close. But what matters more the total gold count or medal count.I personally think total medal count.Because those athletes that didn't win gold should be praised as well.I've seen some other questions say that gold matters more than total medal count. So what does the IOC go by?

  1. Gold is better not the most medals

Gold say your the best the world has to offer the fast es swimmer or fastest runner best soccer team etc.

Silver and bronze say you were close but failed your good but not the best

Just because china has the most gold medal and the US has the most medals means china has better athletecs so they win right now theirs always 2012.

  2. It depends on where you live, and how it always done

    It really does not matter

The US always went by the total, even when they did not go so good

Remember the time of the USSR and the Soviet Block of countries

  3. If you are going to count second and third, why not count everyone who made it to the final of each event?  Everyone who made it to the olympics? They are all good achievements.

In the end though, all the athletes are there to win, and that is why the official method is to rank countries by the amount of events they won.

  4. What ever floats your boat, because everyone picks w/e way that favors how they feel. I'm gonna be counting medal count, since it favors America and im American.

  5. I think it should be more logical and mathematical. Perhaps based on point system. We can take each Gold=3 points, Silver=2 points and Bronze=1 point. After calculating according to this, the top points holder country can be ranked #1

  6. USA topping Silver and Bronze Medal Table!

  7. Gold

If you have more silver and bronze than you are the CHAMPION OF THE LOSERS.
