Golden's rusty food bowl?

Hi,

I accidentally left out my dog's food bowl for about 3 months. It was stainless steel, but has gotten a little rusty. I cleaned off as much as I could with a brillo pad, but there is still a little bit left. Is it safe to feed him in this?

Well I would get a new one, as they are quite cheap, and a rusty one would be hard to clean and I wouldn't like to eat out of one so I'm sure your dog wouldn't!

I wouldn't feed my dog out of a rusty bowl.  I would just get a new one. If it was out for 3 months, what were you feeding your dog out of for that time??  Just use that, or get a new one.

Bowls are cheap just get a new one.  Sheesh.

Since food bowls are not expensive, why not just buy a new one.  Better safe than sorry.  Don't forget to take better care of the new one.

No, go buy a new one.  Any rust will hurt any animal.  I use plastic bowls only.  My dogs pull a "snoopy" and bring me the bowl when it's empty.

What was he eating in for the time being?

Rust and Brillo can kill a dog. If it gets into the bloodstream, it's over. If you have any leftover brillo in there, it can really hurt the dog, plus there's the rust too.

Buy a new bowl at pet-smart or a store like that.

If it has ANY rust, you need to throw it away and get a new one. Rust, if ingested, can kill your dog in a matter of days. The compounds in rust make digestion impossible, if it gets into the bloodstream, it can transmit several diseases.
