Golden Boy Promotions moving forward to reverse Khan vs. Peterson decision – Boxing News
In the wake of the recent events regarding Lamont Peterson’s failed drug test, Golden Boy Promotions has moved forward to reverse Khan vs. Peterson decision. Khan lost his WBA and IBF super lightweight titles to Lamont Peterson in December last year. However,
due to a failed drug tests that was conducted in March earlier this year, Golden Boy Promotions wants the IBF to reverse the decision to a ‘No Contest’ to ensure Khan gets his titles back.
Arnold Joseph of Golden Boy Promotions wrote to the deputy commissioner of the Washington D.C. Boxing and Wrestling Commission Alfred Grant, requesting him to reverse the decision. In addition, Joseph also wrote to the Daryl Peoples to address the IBF and
Gilberto Mendoza Jr. to address the WBA. Since both, IBF and WBA, had sanctioned the fight between Khan and Peterson, Joseph asked them to call it a No-Contest and return the titles to Khan.
Joseph’s letter stated, “Since the disclosure of the (March 19) test result, Mr. Peterson, through counsel, has not only admitted that he had a performance-enhancing substance implanted in his body, he has admitted that the substance was administered to
him in November of 2011, less than one month before the bout and consequently, as will be explained later in this letter, was in his system at the time of the bout. In light of the admission by Peterson that he had a performance-enhancing substance implanted
into his body prior to the bout, we request that your commission overturn the decision in the bout and declare it a no-contest.”
He further added that Peterson’s doctor has admitted that ‘subcutaneous testosterone pellets’ were prescribed to the WBA and IBF super lightweight champion on November 12, 2011. According to Joseph, this is the reason why Peterson was tested positive for
having elevated testosterone levels by the VADA on March 19, 2012. Joseph further said that Peterson should have informed the WBA and IBF about his condition but he did not do so, which means he went onto fight Khan with such a condition knowing that it is
illegal and unethical in the industry.
